Star Wars at Games Con Canada

I had the chance to attend Games Con, one of the largest gaming-related conventions in Canada. Games Con is a celebration of all things gaming, from board games to e-sports. I'm not your typical gamer; I usually stick to board games and mindless mobile games. So, this was a completely new experience for me. I didn't know what to expect in terms of Star Wars content at the convention, but I was pleasantly surprised. Star Wars had a strong presence throughout the event, with amazing cosplays and Asmodee Gaming showcasing three new Star Wars card and board games.

Games Con Canada was held from June 14 to 16. My husband and I attended the convention for all three days. The cost of a three-day pass was $130 Canadian per person, with no special rates for children. We didn't arrive right at the opening time on any of the days to avoid the initial rush of people. On the days we drove to the convention, we were able to find parking relatively quickly and close to the entrances of the convention center. The cost for parking was $15.00 Canadian for the entire day.

Once entering the convention we were pleasantly surprised at how relaxed the convention felt with the dim lighting in the E-Sports hall. As we walked through the convention hall we checked out multiple booths and brands that were sponsoring the show such as Intel, Samsung, and Focus Entertainment. After checking out the E-Sports hall we went into the board games hall and this is where me and my husband spent the majority of our time learning new games and even purchasing a few.

                                                                 Star Wars: Unlimited

The First game me and my husband were beyond excited to see and try was Star Wars: Unlimited. Star Wars: Unlimited is a new trading card game set in the Star Wars universe. It was first released in March 2024 and quickly sold out across Canada. During Games Con, we had the opportunity to participate in game demos with the helpful Asmodee Gaming team. They taught us about the different card types and overall game mechanics. After completing a demo, we could visit the Asmodee Gaming table to spin a wheel for a chance to win event-exclusive cards, pins, or 3-card booster packs. Throughout the weekend, we participated in daily demos to collect the pins, event-exclusive card, and booster packs. Additionally, we were lucky to be able to purchase the originally sold-out Spark of the Rebellion Two-Player Starter Kit and four 16-card booster packs. If you're interested in unboxing videos, you can watch my unboxing of two of our 16-card booster packs here

Star Wars: Bounty Hunters

The second game I tried at Games Con, I played Star Wars: Bounty Hunters. This game suited me better because it's simple and doesn't require much thinking. The helpful staff at Asmodee Gaming taught me how to play the game, and I really enjoyed the one-on-one learning experience. After playing with the staff, I introduced the game to my husband, and he liked it too. So, we decided to play it again and recorded the gameplay, which you can watch here.

Star Wars: Timelines

The Third game that we were introduced to was Star Wars: Timelines this game tests your knowledge of all the Star Wars films with 100 cards as you have to figure out the timeline as you go. This game was a very simple and fun game that I really enjoyed playing as a superfan. Me and my husband played multiple rounds of this game and had an absolute blast we even decided to film us playing it so you can watch our gameplay here

                                                                          Cosplay

Although limited, there was still a small amount of Star Wars cosplay at Games Con Canada. From droids to Jedi, and even Princess Leia, Games Con Canada had so many fantastic Star Wars cosplays.

I recently attended Games Con Canada and wasn't sure what Star Wars content to expect. To my surprise, I discovered three new Star Wars games. Did you also attend Games Con Canada 2024?
