✨ Game Con Canada 2025 | Bring your Eh Game ✨
Hello there friends,
I have never been much of a “gamer” per se, but over the past year, I have found myself becoming someone who wants to play games more often, from trading card games to board games. I have discovered how much joy games can bring to my life, whether I play them by myself or with friends. So I was beyond excited when Game Con Canada invited me back to their event for 2025! This year’s convention spanned a total of four convention halls and five panel rooms, with every space offering unique and fun gaming experiences! From trying out the latest indie games to more well-known titles like Warhammer and Catan, Game Con Canada was a great place for both new and seasoned players to enjoy the world of gaming.
Game Con Day 1
My First day at Game Con Canada started earlier than most with a preview of the event an hour before opening to the general public, during this early admission we got the chance to see the convention floor, test out some of the new indie games that would be on demo throughout the weekend and gather some photos of the convection space before the event opened to the general public, during this time me and my partner walked around and tested out the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate Game, we found ourselves having so much fun with the game and later finding out we ended up lasting the longest in the game throughout the whole weekend!
After finally being defeated in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game, we decided to go check out the booth we were most excited to see, the Asmodee game’s booth! At Game Con in 2024 me my partner and I were introduced to our favourite card game, Star Wars Unlimited, and we were beyond excited to see what they had planned to celebrate this game at their booth this year! Along with demos of all the starter packs for each series of the game, Asmodee was giving away chances to win some amazing Star Wars Unlimited gear like deck boxes, game mats and starter packs for the current set Jump to Lightspeed! We also learned that if you played the demos for the game, you would be given promotional packs for any of the sets of your choosing, along with the convention exclusive Grogu card. So throughout the weekend, we kept coming back with friends to introduce them to the game, along with being able to pick up the promo packs to help finish some of our collection.
Once we finished the demos at the Asmodee booth, the convention was open to the general public, and we found ourselves deciding to visit the panel rooms to check out what they had to offer. In the first room we visited, we ended up discovering the amazing YEG Pinball! In this room, YEG Pinball members supplied over 50 pinball machines that you could play free games on, from machines that dated back to the 50’s to Current day, there was a wide variety of machines to try playing. This room turned out to be one of my favourite hidden gems of the weekend!
Once we finished playing pinball, we ended up meeting up with a couple of friends and lining up to meet the amazing Matthew Lillard! Matthew was at the convention throughout the weekend with his game company Beadles & Grimm, where he was promoting their upcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender RPG expansion on Kickstarter and the D&D one-shot adventure book Faster, Purple Worm! Kill! Kill! He was doing a live one-shot campaign with other guests of the convention at a paid ticketed event. His meet and greet with fans was a multiple-hour free session where he spent time chatting with fans and taking pictures. I was beyond excited to meet Matthew because of him being such a pivotal part of my childhood in his role as Shaggy from Scooby Doo (one of my earliest fandoms).
After meeting Matthew with friends, we ended up exploring the convention floor and trying out more game demos, with the first game being at the Intel booth where they were showing off their amazing upcoming gaming PC’s and offering guests to try their hand at the new Marvel game Marvel Rivals. This was my first time playing a PVP style game and I have to be honest it was not the type of game as someone newer to video games that I could not find myself enjoying playing because it just does not match my play style, but I really loved the art and character skins that were available throughout the game! Well, at the Intel booth as well my partner and a few friends signed up for the PC Building contest. Throughout the weekend, convention attendees could sign up for a timed contest where they would be building a gaming PC and the person at the end of the day with the fastest time would end up winning an Intel prize pack that had a $4000 value to it. Once all my friends and partner signed up for the content we found ourselves continuing to explore the convention floor and opted to sample another indie game this game was called Cornucopia this game had to be one of my favourites I sampled throughout the whole convention it reminded me of Stardew Valley in a sense with it being a cozy farming style game that I felt I could get lost in for hours on end and I found myself throughout the weekend coming back to this game and enjoying the demo playthrough. Once we finished the Cornucopia play-through, and parted ways with our friends. My partner and I opted to leave the convention a bit early so we could relax for the evening before heading back to the convention center for the next day of Game Con!
What I wore to Game Con Day 1!
Before I continue my coverage of Game Con Day 2 & 3, I wanted to take the time to show off what I wore to Game Con Day One because I am obsessed with this outfit! When putting together my outfits for Game Con Canada, I knew I had three goals in mind: being comfortable, looking cute and being able to stay warm since I find myself getting cold really easily at conventions. So, for the first day of Game Con, I opted for something simple but still cute. I ended up taking inspiration from some Japanese street style photos I found via Pinterest and decided to go for a cute layered graphic tee look.
What I wore
Lace Shirt- Amazon (Similar)
Daddy Vader Shirt- Shop Disney
Boyfriend Jeans- Old Navy (similar)
Padme and Leia Earrings- Girls Crew
Socks- Ardene's (similar)
Shoes- Sportcheck (similar)
Purse- Amazon (Similar)
To start this outfit, I ended up selecting a lace turtle neck shirt from my closet that I had purchased from Forever 21 a few years ago. To layer over the lace shirt, I decided on wearing my Darth Vader Daddy shirt from the Ashley Eckstein Disney Parks artist series collection. To complete the outfit, I added a pair of boyfriend jeans from Old Navy and jewelry from my favourite jewelry brand, Girls Crew and my favourite quilted purse from Amazon (not pictured). For my purse, I wanted a bag that would be lightweight but also still store all my equipment for filming/ content creation, like my mini tripod, microphones, and mini ring light. I also wanted my purse to be able to display all my new trinkets I have been collecting as of late, like lightsaber keychains and the Star Wars Ewok bag charms from Star Wars Celebration 2025. I will be going into more detail as to what I pack for a convention in my upcoming What's in my bag: convention edition video on my YouTube channel!
Game Con Day 2
Game Con Day Two started off with us arriving to the convention center just as the event was opening and we found ourselves wondering the convention floor and checking out all the amazing small shop vendors from amazing fan art to local game stores we ended up spending most of our morning exploring these booths and seeing what each vendor had to offer. Once we had completed wandering the vendor hall, we decided to head back to the YEG Pinball room for some much-needed space away from crowds. We decided to play some more pinball, trying out new machines that we had not had the opportunity to play the previous day and got the chance to witness some of the YEG Pinball staff repair some of the machines, seeing how to properly take care of and maintain them.
After Pinball, we decided to meet up with some friends and teach them how to play Star Wars: Unlimited. This had to be a personal highlight of the day for me, getting to share my love of Star Wars Unlimited with my friends and watching them get invested in the game. Once we finished playing Star Wars: Unlimited, it was time for my partner to go and attempt the Intel PC Building contest! My partner ended up having the fourth-best time of the day and received a small goodie bag with a few promotional items from Intel to celebrate. Shortly after finishing the contest me and my partner went back to the Star Wars Unlimited booth to play with our own decks, just as we were completing the second round of our match up, the fire alarm was pulled and the building was evacuated, after checking in with all our friends and making sure everyone was safe we made the choice to leave the event a bit early because with the convention closing in a few hours and no estimated time on when we would get back into the convention hall we decided that going home would be our best option.
Game Con Day 3
With a later start, we arrived at Game Con day three, beyond excited to continue our match of Star Wars Unlimited that was cut short during the previous day. As we arrived at the Star Wars Unlimited booth multiple of the booth staff members pulled us aside (because we had been there the whole weekend playing) and offered for us to be a part of a unofficial Star Wars Unlimited Draft for later in the day, beyond excited we accepted the offer and were counting down until the draft. After playing a couple of rounds of Star Wars Unlimited and completing our previous game that was cut short, we decided to explore a few booths that we had yet to visit.
The first booth we went to and checked out was the Warhammer booth. I am not familiar with Warhammer whatsoever, but I really enjoyed getting to learn a bit about the game and see all the painted models that so many fans had put incredible effort into. The next booth we ended up visiting was the MSI booth, where we attempted to win some prize packs with a carnival-style shooting game. The area we decided to go check out before the Star Wars Unlimited Draft was the Indi Games Booths here we ended up playing a few more game demos and going to see if we had time to play another demo of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate well there we ended up spending time chatting with the creators of the game and learning we ended up being the people who did the best at the demo throughout the whole convention!
Once we finished another round of playing the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate demo, it was time for us to go back to the Star Wars Unlimited booth and participate in the draft. During this draft we ended up playing from series three twilight of the republic, I ended up creating Obi-Wan Kenobi Deck with an Aggression base and was overall very pleased with the result of my deck, the draft ended up being five rounds elimination style and ended up eliminated in the first round in a very close call match where I lost by one point. My partner ended up making it three rounds with a similarly constructed Obi-Wan Kenobi Aggression deck. Once we were both eliminated, we decided to stick around to watch the complete draft and chat with fellow players, along with participating in some trading for cards to add to our collection!
When I look back at attending my first Game Con Canada in 2024 I never expected to find myself actively enjoying gaming and turning it into another way for me to express my love for fandom but now having attended my second Game Con Canada, I find myself jumping more into the world of gaming and finding it a beyond enjoyable experience! I can not thank Game Con Canada enough for allowing me to come back to the convention for the second year in a row and for inviting me back to the event, along with allowing me to share my experience of this convention with everyone. I can not wait until next year! Until next time, stay safe and be kind to one another- Chloe’s Fandom Life
