Edmonton Expo 2025 | Time Travel, Hobbits and Lego

Hello There,

In September of 2025 I had the honor to be invited by Edmonton Expo to their three day convention as a content creator. This opportunity was an absolute dream come true for me. I love sharing my experiences at conventions from the panels I attend, to the people I have the opportunity to meet. So sharing this experience as a content creator with you all was such an exciting experience for me and I feel so grateful that you the readers want to hear about these experiences!

Guests

Edmonton Expo 2025 had an amazing guest line up featuring Living Legend Christopher Llyod, the original four hobbits Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Dominic Monahan, Billy Boyd and so many other talented actors and actresses. Along with the amazing guest line up Edmonton expo had a fantastic line up of comic creators, artists and authors like Jody Houser, Samm Meggs and Micheal Golden.

Personally, at this expo I did not meet many of the actors and actresses at this convention but I did get the chance to share the opportunity of my creator tickets with my dad and because of those tickets he was able to come to the expo and meet Christopher Llyod. Although the interaction was brief, my dad was able to have Christopher Llyod sign a WDCC Who Framed Roger Rabbit statue for his collection and share his experience with Christopher of his first time seeing Who Framed Roger Rabbit for the first time on one of his first dates with my mom. As my dad was leaving the autograph line I was able to say a couple brief words to Christopher about how his work in Wednesday Season Two meant a lot to me especially his line “We are more than just the sum of our parts. But Sometimes, the parts are greater than the whole” as the line had really meant a lot to me as someone who deals with ongoing chronic illness and often feels the struggle of not letting my chronic illness define me he thanked me for sharing that story with him and said to me that he is beyond proud of the work he did in the second season of Wednesday and was glad it had such an unexpected impact on people.

Unlike with the actors and actresses guests I did end up meeting and having a plethora of amazing chats with the creator guests. Mainly visiting and stopping by to see my long time internet friend and author of Star Wars Jedi: Battle Scars Sam Meggs! I had reached out to Sam back in 2023 for the opportunity to collaborate on a panel but sadly we both were unable to make the opportunity work but remained friends commenting on each other's posts and occasionally chatting on instagram messenger. So when Sam was announced for the Edmonton Expo I was so excited to finally have a chance to chat in person and honestly it was such a fantastic experience! The Second Creator Guest I had the chance to meet was Jodi Houser whose work I have been following since the Forces of Destiny Rey Comics she wrote in 2018! I was so grateful for the chance to chat with her about our love for padme and our perspectives aligning on Padme's death and how her broken heart was not just because of Anakin's betrayal and fall to the darkside but also the crumbling of the republic that she fought so hard for. I found talking with the creator guests to be such an inspiring and motivating experience with the encouragement I received to keep writing and sharing my love for fandom online and I can genuinely say meeting these creators was a favourite part of my Edmonton Expo experience.

Community Booths

One of the best parts of Edmonton expo in my opinion has to be the community zones from celebrating all things lego with the members of NALUG (Northern Alberta Lego Users Group) to fun photo ops in the commanders chair aboard the USS Cerberus or if photo ops aren't your thing the Star Wars Edmonton Fan Force has fantastic raffles that you can enter to win! The community zones are where you can find a sense of belonging, community and maybe even make a couple new friends!

My partner's favourite part of any community zone is the NALUG (Northern Alberta Lego Users Group) booth. We could spend hours looking at the fantastic intricate Lego displays from Star Wars
to Lord of the Rings. This year's NALUG displays did not disappoint.

As a certified Star Wars girly you wouldn't think that I would have gone anywhere near the USS Cerberus booth but the moment I saw the captain chair and looked at my emotional support porg in my arms I knew what I had to do! Unfortunately they did not have any tribbles I could borrow to surround my porg with but they did have these fantastic 3D printed Star Trek badges and phasers that we could use for the photo. After taking the photo the USS Cerberus crew was kind enough to give us a copy of the badge and a women of star trek trading card sadly they didnt have either of my middle namesake (yes as a certified Star Wars girly my middle names are from Star Trek I find it just as funny as you probably do) Deanna or Natasha so I ended up going with Rain Robinson because for some reason I do have vague memories of the character from the episodes I have seen of the series.

My favourite of the community booths for Edmonton Expo has always been the Star Wars Edmonton Fan Force booth. This booth consistently feels like my safe space where I can go and spend time talking with fans not just about Star Wars but any topic under the umbrella of fandom. The fans who run this booth are so kind and just are really fun to be around! But also they are raising money for a great cause every convention the Star Wars Edmonton Fan Force raises money for the LLSC (Lymphoma and Leukemia Society of Canada) with sales of donated collectibles and Raffles for one of a kind Star Wars items this years item was a remote control R5 droid!

Panels

At Conventions I always try to make time to attend panels whether it’s learning a new skill or listening to a creator speak about their work. I find panels to be the most inspirational and insightful things to attend during a convention. But unfortunately I didn't get to attend all the panels I would have liked to due to time constraints and schedule conflicts but I am so glad I made the time to attend the three that I did from watching the premier of Brandon Rogers new youtube video to the inspirational panel about writing for Star Wars as a woman to the Ultimate Hobbit Reunion Pane I found myself taking away something different from every panel like new points of view, Inspiration to start my own Star Wars RPG group to fun behind the scene facts about one of my favourite trilogies this years Edmonton Expo panels did not disappoint.

The first panel I attended was on the Friday of the event and it was the premier of Brandon Rogers new youtube video. This panel was genuinely the most fun I have had at a panel in a long time. The crowd for this panel felt so special because of the audience in attendance who were a mix of casual long time watchers of Brandon Rogers or big Helluva Boss fans and because of that the energy and excitement for this panel felt electric! Personally I am a casual Helluva Boss fan but my partner loves the show and begged me to attend the panel with them and on a last minute whim I decided to attend it and honestly I am so glad I did not only was Brandon’s video hilarious but you could tell even though he was editing it to the last minute before the panel that he finds joy in what he does and it is reflected in his work!

The second panel I attended on the weekend was the Sam Meggs & Jodi Houser Panel where they talked about being women writing for Star Wars. Truthfully I found this panel to be fascinating. I loved hearing their perspectives on the Star Wars Universe and how writing for this IP has changed their perspectives on writing. Along with the overall secrecy that is involved in lucasfilms continuity department and how both authors would get notes back from lucasfilm on things they would have to change to later on see an episode of a series have the same idea they did on an earlier draft of their work. Jodi also talked about her ongoing star wars role play game group and how it inspired some of the stories she has told along with including her friends characters names as easter eggs in issues of comics she has written. Later on this specific story Jodi shared got me and my partner talking and inspired us to set up our own Star Wars Role Play Game group. Sam shared a story about her love for episode seven and how inspiring it was to her to see a woman taking on the lead of a prominently male dominated franchise and I found myself related with her statements on such a deep level as a woman who also loved episode seven so much and still to this day has a deep love for Rey as a character. Leaving this panel I found myself truly inspired by these women and felt so grateful I was able to attend this panel.

The last panel I attended over the Edmonton Expo weekend was the Hobbit reunion panel that I was kindly gifted tickets for. This panel felt like a bunch of Silly friends reuniting and sharing in their excitement and success with each other. From calling all hobbits calling Sean Astin Mr President (due to the recent announcement of him becoming the SAG-AFTRA president) to the inside jokes between the four you could tell their friendship was still strong after 25 years! The panel near the end turned into what seemed like a game show with all four actors playing trivia, charades and games with the audience. Overall this panel was a fun experience watching four old friends reunite and share in each other's joy and success.

I had such a fantastic time at Edmonton Expo 2025 attending some amazing panels and meeting some really fantastic guests. I can not wait till the next expo but until next time I am Chloe from Chloesfandomlife and you can find me on all of the following social media platforms below
